Life Lately: Healing and Extended KSA Stay

Last week, I was down with colds and Nate with a cough. I gave myself a time off blogging to heal and take care of Nate. Praise God we are both healed now. Tomorrow, we'll go back to Nate's pediatrician for a follow-up. I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

On Call, BRB

Nate and I have been sick since late last week. Although I have recovered already, Nate's situation got worse. With that, I decided to take him to the hospital earlier today. His Pedia said he has Urinary Tract Infection and pneumonia (again, even after he had a pneumonia vaccine shot).

He was almost admitted to the hospital, good thing, the just recommended meds. Thank goodness! Akala ko maadmit na naman! Siguro 'di ganun kalala ang sakit? Nonetheless, I hope he gets better, I know he will, with God's (the greatest physician's) help. The weather nowadays is making many people sick again. I've seen so many people having either a cough or colds when I go out. So, let's all take care of ourselves. In the mean time, I will be on hiatus in blogging until things get better.

Until then!

Life Lessons from Shoes

People love shoes. I mean, who doesn't anyway? On TV, we see celebrities showcasing their thousand pairs of shoes and it's incredible how many pairs they get when we only have two feet. Lol!

No, I'm not writing this to judge them, haha! They're celebrities and part of their job is to look presentable most, if not all of the time. I'm writing this to talk about the lessons I learned along the way that is related to shoes.

Wednesday Wreview: Vanilla Cupcake Bakery Trinoma

What's good about meeting with co-bloggers? Not only that you get to talk about something you are all interested in which is, of course, blogging, they also understand that you need to go somewhere you've never been yet so you can review it. Lol!

From Head to Post: Tools I Use in Blogging

If I am to compare my blog posts now versus when I started blogging, I can say 100% that my blogs are a lot better now. Although most of my posts are still personal, I want to be able to help others at the same time as well.

What started as an online diary is now something I consider an additional source of income. No, not a big amount if you ask. I'm not a famous blogger, lol! But with everything happening online, even a blog that's not so well-known as mine can go worldwide! And this is why I'm trying to post helpful posts every now and then. Aside from that, I also want my blog to get more search results in return.

10 Reasons to Thank God for August 2017

Other people believe that August is a month of bad luck. During this month, they don't get married, start a business, move to a new house and more because of fear that something bad might happen.

I don't personally believe in luck. What I do believe, though, is God's will. So I do not fear the month of August. In fact, to take the negativity away from my post yesterday, today, I'm counting my blessings for this month. And I'm naming them one by one.

On Being Judgmental

A lot of times I am judgmental.

I try not to but there are times that my sinful nature would kick in and auto-react negatively on things. So yes, call me judgmental. I admit that.

But here's a clue: Saying "you're judgmental" to someone is actually a symptom of being judgmental.

How to Enjoy a Hike Even More

Hiking is not what I usually do. I think I only do it at least once in a year. Last Monday, we had an unplanned hike. Well, for them it was planned, I just decided I'd tag along by the time they were about to leave. We hiked to the gate of Timberland Heights which is about 3.5 kilometers away from where we live.

The Little Ice Cream Worker

This was supposed to be just an add-on to my previous post about Nate's Kidzooona experience. But I realized the post is loaded with photos already. So, instead, I decided to create a separate post about a short story of a young ice cream worker. This is inspired by Nate's happiness when he was in the ice cream shop in Kidzooona. :)

Nate's Kidzooona Experience

Last Saturday, we were in Eastwood in Libis, QC for a birthday celebration (belated happy 1st birthday, Mikhail!). I was thankful I got invited because it was our first time in a long time to be back in Eastwood. The last time we were there was in February 2015 when Nate was still a baby.

No Goodbyes, Just 'till we meet again'

This is Kuya Lyndon. For the past few days, I was feeling sad because of him. Last week, we learned that he had a stroke while driving on his way home. He was fighting for his life for a few days until around 6 PM last Sunday when he went to his eternal home to be with the Lord.

Is Working at Home for You?

Nowadays, more and more people opt to work at home. While many find it a lot more convenient, especially for moms like me, to work at home, there is a possibility that working at home may not be for you. Here are things to consider when working at home.

First-Time Parents Workshop Series

We all have our first times. First times can be exciting, overwhelming and embarrassing sometimes but they're always worth remembering, aren't they?

Getting pregnant is one of the most wonderful things that happen in our lives. And most of us cannot forget our first reaction when we found out we're having a baby. Mine turned out epic because even though I was somehow expecting I was pregnant, the first sight of that positive pregnancy test is still shocking! However, the rest filled with excitement. It was a joy for me to share pictures of my baby bump in social media.

3 Ways to Handle Picky Eaters

I have two godchildren who are very good when it comes to food - they eat almost everything served on them! And as a mother, I am so impressed by these kids. Remember Xiaoman, the baby foodie who went viral? I bet you've already seen her online, but if you haven't yet, here's a video clip (sino ba namang hindi matutuwa 'pag nakita 'tong batang 'to 'di ba?)

My Fears as a Wife

I've been a wife for almost five years now. We're turning five this coming December. To be married to Dane is one of the greatest blessings I have received from God. He is the perfect man for me and I love him every day.

Babye, July!

As I sit and think of the days, I can't help but be amazed at how quickly time passes. Today is the last day of July and before we even know it, we're already welcoming 2018. This month was like the other months for us, more of waiting, praying and hoping that Dane's homecoming will be tomorrow. However, it wasn't just that. It was waiting and much more.

Car Safety Tips for Babies and Toddlers

**Sponsored post**

Back when I was working for Convergys, my first account would've been GE Motors. Unfortunately, we were reassigned to a different account for some reason. Whether that's a blessing or a curse, I do not know. But if there's one thing I could wish, I wish I stayed longer with the account - long enough to know more about cars, dealership and other car terms and info.

The One Minute Marriage Cleanse

Dane and I's video call yesterday was filled with tears (at least on my part) and hard decision making that we needed to do. No, he didn't do anything wrong, lol. We were discussing (again) whether he'd return to KSA or not.

This 2-year contract was the most challenging years we had in our marriage and just to think of doing it again for another year or two, naiiyak na ako! But yes, we had to talk about it and come up with a decision (again).

Fri-yay + Nate's 2nd Special Number

Thank God it's Friday! ♥ This week seems so long for me. Mother-in-law and I decided we'd sell snacks in the afternoon so, in the morning, I would go to the market to buy what we need. This is just a little experiment that we did - trial and error, of course, which Dane fully supported.

My Financial Literacy Journey

Wow! This is my second post about finances. My first was about the 10-20-70 principle. Never have I imagined I would even have the courage to write about money or finances on my blog. But guess what, here I am now, documenting my journey to learning about finances.

Just imagine a little child not knowing how to read and write. That was me months ago when it comes to financial education. Then all of a sudden, I felt the need to learn about it already. So I started checking online, just like what most of us would do. I'm glad God directed me to the right channels where I was able to slowly learn about finance.

Of course, not that I'm an expert now, I know I still have a lot to learn. However, me, vs my old self who didn't even know what the word INFLATION RATE means, I can say that I have slowly improved.

The 3-year Old's Question That Left me Speechless for a Little While

Nate is known for being talkative. And when I say talkative, I mean overly talkative. I can imagine his name on the list of the noisy folks in class already. lol. As long as he is with the people he knows, he will keep on talking and asking questions.

Last week, we were helping a neighbor nebulize her son because he was having an asthma attack so we let them use our nebulizer. The boy, experiencing it for the first time, was wailing on the top of his lungs. Out of annoyance, Nate went near him, and with an emphasized voice, he told the boy:

How I Earned Php 750 from my Grocery Receipts

This post is long overdue and the reason for that is I want to make sure it's legit before I start recommending it to others. Now that I got my first cashout deposited to my account, I can now safely post about...

The Sickness Chain

Just last week, I wrote about Dane's sickness and how difficult it was for LDR couples when one gets sick. Guess what, life seems to like playing with us because now, I am the one who's sick. If there's anything good about all this, it's that none of us was admitted in the hospital and that Nate isn't ill. We know this, moms and dads, we'd rather be sick that see our child suffer.

Last Monday, I knew something wasn't right about my body when I had more than enough hours of rest but I still felt weak. It was an unproductive day. I just stayed in bed and I even asked Nate to massage my back. My tummy felt bloated as well. I didn't like the feeling, especially since the week just started.

Yung iba nagtatampo bakit ayaw pahiramin, which is hindi naman tama.

Bakit nga ba 'di tayo pinapautang ng kakilala natin minsan?

Sickness and Long Distance Relationship

Last week, Dane told me he was not feeling well. He said his throat hurts badly. I told him to gargle warm water with salt and asked him to try to buy Bactidol if possible. He still had to go to work, of course! While at work, he said he had a fever and was feeling weak. As his wife who's almost 5, 000 miles away from him, I couldn't do anything aside from trusting that God will heal him.

I had a feeling it was flu again. For almost two years of working abroad, by God's grace, he's not very sickly there. However, when he does, I can't help but worry about him. This time, I even told Nate so many times to pray for his papa.

BUDGETING 101: The 10-20-70 Principle

Disclaimer: I am not a financial expert. We are not financially stable. We are on our journey to financial literacy. So I just thought it'd be best to share what I learned along the way. Dito kasi sa Pilipinas, parang medyo taboo pa for majority of people ang money talks, right? It's like those who can talk about it are only those who are rich? I don't know, maybe it's just me, or what, but others may say, "wow, galing na about sa money oh, mayaman na siguro to" you know what I mean? Pero if rich people talk about money openly, dapat siguro tayo ding mga mahihirap, ano, para matuto tayo. :)

Ok, moving on...lol! A few weeks ago, I started watching videos about finance and investing. The many blog posts I read about investments, insurances, and finances have challenged me to start learning about them. I am 28 years old now, I should have learned earlier but back then, I settled on the fact that we are poor and can never really invest. I was wrong.

On one of the videos of Bo Sanchez, he talked about the 10-20-70 principle of budgeting. I'm glad I am on the right track because I have been doing it already, I just didn't know there's a term for that. lol! But in all honestly, we were not diligent in doing it.

So what's this 10-20-70 rule? According to him, in every income that you get:

6 Ways to Boost Self-esteem

We all want a high self-worth. I mean, who doesn't right? High self-esteem is being able to appreciate ourselves for who we are. With high self-esteem comes a simpler, happier and fulfilled life. We all want that, don't we?

Are you feeling a bit down lately? Don't worry, my friend, you're not alone! But hey, let's not let that feeling dominate our being, alright? Try these to help boost your self-esteem.

1. Trust yourself
If you don't trust yourself, who would? Low self-esteem happens when we question our capacity. Teach yourself to never doubt your potential. Yes, you have potential! Believe that! All you have to do is figure out what it is and start improving that skill.

Sunday School: The Waiting Game

I may not have mentioned this before, but I am a Sunday School teacher for the youth department in our church. I teach them about the basic Bible truths - what we believe and why we believe it. Our youth department is a group of teens and young adults aged fourteen to twenty-six years old if I'm not mistaken.

Since my (let's just say) students are youth, I try to be as perky as I can be while teaching. Yes, to the point that I become too corny already, lol! That is because I believe that you can mix fun and learning.

Thursday Thoughts: What Kept us Busy Recently?

I just realized that my last blog post was seven days ago already. I've not written anything for this week yet. Where was I? I guess I took another short hiatus, lol! Kidding aside, the main reason why I couldn't write often now was that our youngest sister is not here anymore, she's back to schooling after taking a pause for one school year.

Now, I can only write when someone is taking care of Nate or when he's sleeping. And that's fine, I mean, I don't see any problems with the new set up. After all, this blog is about our lives and our parenting journey. There's no pressure at all. :) But of course, I still try to blog as often as I can because this is what I love to do.

For this week though, here are the things that kept us busy at home.

I spent the entire day off last Monday with Nate. We slept, read and played. Monday is supposedly the day for me to catch up on my blogging but I didn't do it this time. Our room was a mess and I didn't care, I just wanted to rest and have more time with Nate.

In our messy bed, my grumpy #wokeuplikethis face, and no, that's not eyeshadow, that's black eye! I don't know how I got that, maybe Nate threw something that hit my eye, lol!

WAHM Tips: The Importance of Having a Back Up When Working at Home

Real talk: not all who work from home have a control over their time. I am among those who work at home with on a scheduled working hour. I have to be online Mondays through Fridays from 9 AM to 5 PM US Eastern time (that's 9 PM to 5 am PH time during daylight savings and 10 PM to 6 AM during standard time).

Here's what happened yesterday: it rained hard around 4:30 to 5:30 PM, just a few minutes after we went home from the grocery store. Yay, bed weather is coming! We were all happy for the rain since it was too hot yesterday. Everything was great until we had a brownout. Apparently, it's a transformer issue that's causing the power outage. Our neighbors called the people in charge to have it fixed but they were told the outage could take 4-6 hours.

I woke up at 8:30 PM, 30 minutes before my log-in time and there was still no electricity. So, with a candle in hand, I went to my work table and prepared to go to work. I had a backup ready so I was still able to work despite the power outage. How did I do it? These are the things that saved my day at work:

The BPI Express Credit (eCredit)

Those who read my blog from time to time know that I am new to the credit card world. I just had one via BPI secured credit card. So far, I only use it for grocery, Globe bill and emergency purchases just like my recent Plantronics headset order.

I know the credit limit is just too low (yes, it's just 9k, lol), I make sure to remind myself not to use it for things I don't need. So far, I don't have any problems when it comes to self-control VS my secured credit card. lol.

The Waiting

Sharing the song that has been my constant reminder every time I miss my husband. God willing, in five month's time, Dane will finally be home from Riyadh, KSA. Who would've thought it's almost two years already since we said our goodbyes at the airport? Many say that it was too fast.

Nothing is Secured, Nowhere is Safe

Almost all BPI clients who were affected, including me, was in a panic yesterday when news about BPI unauthorized charges spread like wildfire online. I saw many people complaining and bashing BPI's Facebook page about the matter.

I admit that I worried because that money was something Dane and I worked hard for. Some we got because we chose to save rather than buy something we want to buy. But when a friend who was with BPI for more than a decade assured me that it would be OK, and when I saw how that I am not the only one, I stopped worrying and just believed that BPI would be true to its words.

BPI: Hack? Glitch or Phishing?

I am supposed to write something about my reflection today but something came up. While I was waiting for Dane to go online, I saw a thread on a Facebook page from a mommy group about BPI making unauthorized transactions on their accounts.

I immediately checked my online banking and alas! I am one of them! A small amount in total (from two different transactions) was made on my account yesterday. Here's the thing: I was at home all day yesterday and never even touched my BPI card.

WAHM Review: Plantronics Audio 628 USB Stereo Headset

Before I got married and had Nate, I was already working from home. I am a customer service representative. It's very similar to call centers except I work from home, we use Skype to take calls and I don't have any benefits. It's literally a 'no work, no pay' basis.

Home based CSRs like me agree that aside from a stable internet connection and a quiet working environment, we need a quality headset. The problem is these headsets are worth dollars! And some of them, even though they work great, are not so durable and easily gets destroyed, so goodbye $$$ agad!

Women's Local Fellowship/Bonding

GSGGCC Women's Group during Mother's Day 2017
I grew up attending fellowships. A Fellowship is a gathering of believers in Christ. We, Christians believe that fellowshipping helps our spiritual growth as it encourages and renews our commitment to God, at the same time, we learn more about His word.

Mama & Nate's Weekend Playdate

My cousin, who stayed at home for a few weeks for her interview with the US embassy gave Nate 13 game arcade tokens. Since the day Nate got it, he kept telling me to go to SM so he could use them. I told him we'd have to wait 'til the weekend to go there. He agreed, but the next day, he would tell me the same thing again! lol. So, finally, we went to SM San Mateo last Saturday so he could play and then we'd buy grocery after.

The Story About a Broken Friendship

Which is more painful? A friend you had a serious fight with before you decided you'd just separate ways or a friend you thought was your true friend but suddenly disconnects with you without saying a word?

I think any "friendship break-up" (as I call it) is painful. I just had one recently and I'm still trying to move on from the pain.

This is our story...

Nate's Heartbreaking Hospital Experience

As I was browsing my Instagram wall last night, I realized I haven't blogged about Nate's hospital experience yet (well, I did, on a previous post but it was not detailed). So I'd like to talk about that today. This happened about a month before Nate turned three years old.

Nate does not get easily sick. However, when it comes to colds and coughs, we've noticed that he gets those easily. And these two are always partners. If Nate has a cough, a few days after, colds will follow, and vice versa.

Nate's 3rd Birthday Celebration x VBS 2017 Thanksgiving

Nate turned three more than a week ago, yay! Because it falls on a Friday, I thought it'd be great to celebrate the day after instead. When I asked Nate what he wanted for his birthday, he said he wanted to go to the beach. Nate loves going to the beach and pool, just like most kids (but he does not like taking a bath, lol!).

To All Mothers Around the World...

You who had mixed emotions the moment you see those two lines on the pregnancy test you bought at a local drugstore;
You who suffered nausea, headache, dizziness, and morning sickness;
You who happily watch your tummy grow little by little each day;
You who was completely shocked the moment you felt your child's first kick;
You who endured hours of labor pain that felt like it was killing you;
You who could not stop those tears from rolling down your cheeks the moment you first saw your little one -
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

WAHM Diaries: Nate Talks

Breaking the negativity from my previous post, I'd like to talk about our my funny convos with Nate recently. Don't we just love the kids' little minds? They amaze us in ways we don't expect. It's wonderful!

One afternoon:
Nate: "Ma, 'di na ako baby e, youth na ako. Just like ate Juday"
Me: *Jaw dropped*
(Juday is one of his "ates" in the church)

Did Smart Pay Me to Bash Globe?

Two days ago, I wrote a post I thought was a heartwarming message for my son to read when he grows up. Little did I know, that post would lead to a controversy and would make others think that I am being paid to say negative things about a telecom - Globe to be exact.

In my post with a title mama's love letter, I talked about Nate and how happy and proud we are to be his parents. However, before that part, in a three-sentence paragraph, I mentioned that Globe was down in the area and that I had to use Smart so I could go online for my committed time at work. Additionally, I added a hyperlink on the anchor text 'Smart LTE' to direct it to the said telco's website.

Mama's Love Letter

Last night's a stressful day at work, I didn't have a stable internet connection since yesterday and the internet promo that I registered said that my data usage was too high so they would slow it down because of fair usage policy. This happened at exactly 9 pm (start of my shift). I had no choice, Globe LTE was down in the area so I had to buy a new Smart LTE sim so I could work. (READ: Did Smart Pay Me to Bash Globe?)

I told you I needed to go out and buy a new sim card and you asked to go with me. I told you I couldn't take you with me 'coz I was in a hurry and I needed to be back asap, and besides, it's night time already. You bargained and said if you wear a jacket and a hat, I could take you. I said I still couldn't but promised you I would be back as soon as possible. You ok'd and I left. Oh, Nate! You always choose to understand!

5 Reasons Why I Applied for a Secured Credit Card

I am one of those who does not like to use credit cards. Well, that was before. I think I was just too afraid to own one because I do not want to be like the many credit card users who ended up in so much debt, most of them were unable to recover from it. It is also because I cannot provide the requirements to getting one.

BPI Secured Credit Card

Today, I got my very first BPI credit card. It's a credit card like no other, lol! It's a secured credit card. :) It is for those who can't provide the requirements for a regular credit card.

Although the process felt like forever to complete, I'm happy it's finally over. For one straight week, I kept going back and forth to BPI San Mateo and they could not accommodate my request because every time I go, the system is down, haha! Lucky me!

DVBS 2017 Experience in One Word

VBS team singing a song during our VBS graduation
Our Vacation Bible School 2017 was a success! Our five-day VBS ministry was concluded last Saturday, April 29th and it we are thankful for God's provision throughout the 5-day activity.

During our last evaluation after the graduation day, we had everyone describe their VBS experience in one word. I was the first to share and with humor, I said that my one word would be "headache". I had a headache for three straight days during the VBS so on Thursday and Friday, I decided to skip and rest.
