Nate & his first guitar

Earlier this month, with Dane’s permission, I finally got Nate a small guitar! I’ve always wanted to buy one for him since last year but I didn’t want an expensive guitar - just something that will introduce him to guitars but will not break my pocket at the same time! Lol!

Nate is always fascinated with guitars and he’s happy every time he sees one. When we were in SM Fairview, he saw a guitar store and showed it to me. “Giiii-taaah!” ang arte ng gitah! Haha. But yeah, when I saw it, I couldn’t take my eyes off that little guitar, I was already imagining Nate enjoying it. I was almost tempted to buy but I was undecided so I thought I should inform Dane first.

After we had Nate’s hair cut (which by the way was soooo frustrating as he was crying the whole time), I got Dane’s reply. He told me to buy it and just take care of it. They call it “guitalele” (guitar + ukulele). It was for Php 999. Of course, you can’t really expect a good quality from a guitar with that price. But what’s good about it is that the strings are nylon, so it’s perfect for Nate. You won’t have to worry about him getting any cuts from the strings ‘coz nylons don’t hurt. :)

So, yeah, Nate was happy, I’m happier, Dane is satisfied with how it looks, and for me, it's perfect. Lol! I don’t really teach Nate how to play yet, I just show him how I play the guitar and he’d just try to imitate it.  While browsing online, I found out that there’s also a thing called guitar center rentals. I’m not sure how that works, is it like, just renting the guitars for a period of time? That sounds cool and inexpensive. Not sure if that’s available in the PH though. :)

Btw, this is him trying it out for the first time. :)

OpenRice PH: BBB RestoReview

Most Filipinos love burgers, which is why stores that sell burgers here in the PH are booming. Last Monday, Jan. 25th, I am privileged to be part of the OpenRice PH team to visit the Big Better Burgers located in SM North EDSA Annex.

1. About BBB
Big Better Burgers (BBB) first opened in 2008 and has since then expanded to 11 branches located in various SM Malls, Ayala Malls & Starmall. Their aim is to bring to their customers the taste and quality of the best American burger. BBB is a new food establishment focused on serving freshly grilled premium burgers.

I’ve heard of BBB before but this is my first visit to BBB. Although I’ve seen and heard about this store a long time ago, I’ve seen their store in SM Fairview as well. And so far, I’ve yet to hear any negative feedback about BBB.

2. BBB North EDSA Annex store
The BBB store in SM North EDSA is quite small, it can accommodate about 30-35 customers I believe. What you see is what you get in their store, once you get your feet on the door, you will have a wide view of everything that’s inside with the chairs and table right next to the entrance door, and the counter located at the back.

Store counter right next to our table
The place is clean, simple, well managed and doesn’t have exaggerated decors (you know what I mean?), all that’s displayed are burgers and other dishes they offer, nothing more, nothing less. It is small and quiet. It’s a good place to talk or chill.

3. The burgers

BBB offers burgers in several unique gourmet variations such as Bacon Blue Cheese, Pesto Mozza, 3 Cheese Explosion, Hahalapeno, Shiitake Teriyaki, Bacon BBB, Mushroom Loco and double dare. Their latest creation is their very pride – the Triple XXX which is made for those with huge appetites! Lol!
I'm not sure if there's any better queue than this! ;)
BBB Classic with Cheese (Php 115)

Bacon Wildshroom Melt (Php 165)

Triple XXX (Php 369) Photo Grabbed online
4. The Rice Meals
What’s good about BBB? They also offer rice meals! If you don’t want buns, just ask for rice, no problem! :). They offer affordable rice meals that you can also enjoy. Unfortunately, I was only able to take 1 photo of the rice meals (it's always a lot challenging with Nate around, but it's fine! lol!)
Chicken Parma (Php 139)
5. Side & Drinks
Sides and drinks will always be our food’s lifetime partner. Their sides and drinks are also available. I’m telling you, di nakakalula ang presyo nila. Lol!
Wedges – 75
Skin-On Fries – 60
Mineral Water – 22
Soda in cans – 45
Iced tea (12 oz) – 25
Iced tea (16 oz) – 34
Sola – 65

6. Pasta
Aside from burgers, we, Filipinos also love pasta! Don’t worry, if you think of wanting to eat pasta, they have their varieties available for you as well!

Pesto Sauce Pasta (Php 115)

Fresh Tomato Pasta – Php 125
Wild Musroom Pasta – Php 135
Pesto Sauce Pasta – Php 115

7. Our overall experience
My first visit to BBB is certainly not my last! They have very accommodating staff, the owner was kind and friendly and we enjoyed learning about BBB when we were there. The burgers are delish and affordable. BBB is a great place to catch up with friends and family.

Ooops, somebody's loving BBB! :)

Ready, Eat, Vroom! RestoReview for CLIQUE

Multitasking is very common nowadays. We want to be able to make use of our time and try to complete two or more tasks at the same time. Many busy people wants to make many things done together because, of course, time is gold! lol!

This may not be the main purpose of Clique when they started but later on this has become its pride and one of the reasons this place is unique. Located in the busy streets of Marikina, clique has become the new venue for its customers’ food car wash and banking needs.

Being located behind the BPI Gil Fernando branch, this place makes me wish they have one near us to since I'm a BPI customer. Here you can order their delectable food offers while waiting for your queue with BPI or while having your car washed. That's a great time saver!

From take out to Dine-in
This food haven initially started in October 2015, at that time, to only cater BPI clients. But because they offer so many mouth watering food, the news about this newly opened place spread like a wild fire so they started opening for public clients just last month (I know it's so new but a very promising food stop here!).

At first, they were only offering take-out orders but since the customers love them, they are now open for dine in orders, isn't that lovely? If only this BPI branch is near my place, I'll surely transact here!

Clique isn't a huge place compared to other restaurants; it can possibly accommodate about 10-13 people inside their store and about 13-18 people outside the store.

Many Food Choices
Clique based their food mostly on chicken but they don’t just end there. The owners always love a complete meal and that’s what they want to incorporate on their menu as well. I tell you this place has soooo many choices – you won’t expect it from a small food chain like Clique. But yeah, they’ve go so much to offer, I bet you’ll love this place! Allow me to start my looong list! Lol!

1. Exclusive Roasted Chicken (Php 300) – this, to me, is the highlight of Clique! This is one of the tastiest roasted chickens I’ve ever tried! I’m not a fan of chicken white meats because, to me, they’re tasteless, but this, my friends, is super delish! I didn’t even notice I was enjoying the white meat already! The taste goes down deep ‘til the bones! Mapapasimot sarap ka talaga!

2. Paella – their paella tastes delightful, I had consumed a lot on this one! Lol! The taste is just right, di nakakaumay. By the way, let me tell you, they have an offer of the roasted chicken plus paella together for Php 1,000 per “bilao” of roasted chicken with paella and sweet potato. The twist here is, you have to eat the chicken, paella & sweet potato together to enjoy it even more. By doing this, you’ll get a balanced taste of sweetness and saltiness (and everything in between, lol!).

3. Wraps – if you are in love with wraps, give this store a visit! Their wraps are undoubtedly tasteful! They have spicy flavoured ones too, although some bloggers say it wasn’t spicy, since I am not into spicy foods at all, some of the wraps are really spicy for me. If you’re like me, don’t worry, they those that aren’t spicy to give their customers options.

4. Premium Sandwiches (Php 100) – of all the sandwiches I’ve tasted, I like the sausage with caramelized onion sandwich. But that doesn’t mean the rest don’t taste good. They all taste delightful. But if I were just to choose one among all the sandwiches, I’d choose the sausage flavoured one. Their sandwiches cost 100 pesos; you can partner it with their available sandwich pairs for an additional 120 pesos.

They also have this so-called “all-day surprise sandwich”. It’s a surprise because you will have to guess what’s inside it! I’ve tasted it, it was yummy, the meat tastes grate coz it’s crispy, but I don’t know what type of meat they used! So yeah, that remained a secret I will have to keep guessing! Lol! If you think you can solve the riddle, please do yourself a favour, visit this store, order that sandwich and if you are lucky to have guessed it, please let me know! Haha!

5. Juices/Teas (Php 40). Another they can boast here is their juices. You will surely enjoy a sweet, tasty, but most of all, HEALTHY drinks with Clique! Nate loved all the juices as well as ZD! It’s amazing how these 2 toddlers have their own taste in drinks already! They both love all the flavors but they both have their own favorates! ZD kept asking for more of the Minty Cucumber while Nate settled with Citrus Taragon. And I can’t blame them, I mean these juices taste really good, it’s a perfect partner while you wait for your car to be washed!

Minty Cucumber (ZD's fave) in the middle & Citrus Taragon (Nate's fave) both at 40 pesos only.
Nate loving his citrus taragon!
6. Cakes (Php 120 per slice) . Cakes are always our guilty pleasures. I bet you’d be tempted with the different flavors of their cakes. Works pretty well after a meal! Lol! Para sira ang diet! Haha! But seriously, you may not be able to resist their cakes!

7. Pasta – They were able to let us taste their pasta offers while we were also there. We were offered 2 flavors, pesto and spaghetti. Of course, as a typical woman with a “playsafe” Filipino taste bud (haha!) – I chose spaghetti over pesto! Lol.

8. Sandwich partners. I’ve mentioned this earlier, these, you can buy as add-on to your sandwiches. They are great for much while you’re on queue with BPI! Haha! They are definitely tasty and worth the price!

9. Sweets! More sweets! – They also have leche flan available that can satisfy your sweet tooth! They’re also working on their leche flan shake and we were the first to try it! All I can say is it tasted really well! I don’t even know a shake can have a leche flan flavor! Who would’ve thought?

My overall experience with Clique in one word is AWESOME! This place is great, the place is simple but the foods they offer are delightfully yummy! In fact, they offer them at a reasonable price. Clique was also generous enough to give us 1 whole roasted chicken to take home with us so our families could also enjoy. More power to this store! They deserve to be known by many! They aren’t afraid to take risks. And the management are so cool and friendly. If you are near the place, visit them and see for yourself. ;)

Thanks for reading Nate's and I's post about Clique! :)

OpenRice PH RestoReview: The Pilgrim

Maginhawa St. in Philcoa, Quezon City is known as one of the many “restaurant places” in the Metro to go to. It has many restaurants to choose from with so many different types of food offers. Last week, we had the chance to visit one of the youngest restaurants in Maginhawa – the Pilgrim. It’ll turn one year old this year. Even if it’s young, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer good food. Read more to know about this humble restaurant that gives great food offers.

The accessibility
I came with Melisa, my sister Beverly and the kiddos when we visited this place. Since we have no car, we rode a tricycle from Philcoa going to The Pilgrim and just told the driver where we’re going. Thankfully, we arrived there after about 5-7 minutes. As long as you ride a tricycle and you have the address, it sure is an easy place to find, and the only twist is that it’s behind the main building (which I will tell you why later), so you’d have to ask someone and they can lead you to the right place.

The Place
The reason it’s behind the building was because they rented the building’s storage room and used their creativity to make it a good place! They’ve even recycled some old things in the room to decorate the place! When we arrived, we were welcomed by a tiny entrance door going inside a dim-lit & quiet restaurant.

Chef Dennis Tan preparing the food when we arrived
The place isn’t that huge, it can accommodate roughly around 30 customers. If you go here and you’re lucky they don’t have any other customers, you will think that you own the place, or that you rented the entire restaurant! It’s a good place to stay ‘coz it’s simple with a flat screen TV in the background if you are into watching TVs but it’s not played loud which means it cannot disturb you if you’d rather do something else as well.

The interior design
The Pilgrim will give you a feel of getting into other places. The restaurant chef/owner Chef Dennis Tan is fond of travelling & staying to other places which gives a fitting name as The Pilgrim. The elephant, which is the theme of this restaurant can clearly be seen everywhere. It is a symbol they use for hard work since the elephant is known to be one of the hardest working animals.

The Food
Chef Dennies tries to reincorporate something out of the places he's been to on the food they serve. It's like a mixture of all the places they've been to which will give you a bit of a Korean, Japan, Australian & Western taste in your plate, depending on the menu you order. This year, he plans to visit more in the Philippines to know more about the culture since he's not a Filipino (but! let me just stress, he's good at speaking English!).

What's good about The Pilgrim is that they try to use their own products, they grow their own ingredients. They try to avoid groceries and use home grown instead. So you can rest assure that you're enjoying a fresh and safe food.

So, friends, without further ado, let me show you the food they serve (sorry, some prices aren't available, the photo of the menu is too blurred, I can't magic it! lol!:

Baby back ribs by Mr. T (with home made BBQ sauce) - known as the best seller, this is one of my favorite among all the food they served. The meat is so tender, the sauce is just right - not too sweet or too salty, the side dish is perfect.
Chicken Fingers with rice crispies and homemade mayo - instead of putting breadcrumbs, they used rice crispies to alter the taste of the common food. The rice crispies really made a huge difference on the taste of this dish! (Php 180)
Oven Brick Hot Chicken Wings - I don't want to be unfair here so my disclaimer is I'm not into spicy foods (at all! lol) I only taste a little of this, I always love chicken wings but since this one's a bit spicy, didn't taste many of this
Sausage and Bacon in Aglio E Olio Sauce - I love pasta so much, this one tastes good, it's out of the ordinary, I am used to creamy pastas, this one is dry, I like how it tastes. I think I'll enjoy it even more with more cream on it, haha.
Shrimp Mango Salad - I love all salads! This one tastes fine for me. I just think I want more mayo on it, like dip it in a mayo! haha. The shrimp is tasty, I liked it.
Steak and Egg - Nate went on the safer side and ate the egg instead. I enjoyed the stake an Nate liked the egg so much! By the way, this is only 95 pesos! I know, it's super affordable!
The juices. I don't have all their names but of them is called The Cure, one Rehabilitate, and one's Dehydrate. By the names themselves, they are made to detoxify our body. Nate kept asking for this, he loves juices!
I call this honorable mention because I didn't get the name! lol! Nate is more into the Filipino-style pasta, so do I but this one tastes good for me too.
Wangyu hanging tenders with green peppercorn sauce - Php 395
One pride that the Pilgrim can claim is the tenderness of their meat. This one isn't an excuse to that. Nate loooved the corn so much, ZD and him took the whole and munched them!

Area for improvement:
The greatest area for improvement I can see in the Pilgrim is their space. I think with the affordable food they offer, they deserve more than just a 30 - seaters space.  Due to their lack of space inside, the place where they cook the steak is right before the entrance door near the car parking, which isn’t a problem for me since I’m used to seeing so many street/bbq food cooked everywhere but others may find that unusual.

The entrance place (that's my sister multitasking: posing while babysitting! lol)
